About Cortado Enterprise

With "Cortado Corporate Server" Cortado offers an enterprise solution which gives employees instant access to the corporate network and flexible output options with their smartphones or BlackBerry handhelds.

With the Cortado Corporate Server the user has mobile access to all network drives, just like from his normal workstation. It supports all directory and file operations, even adding and renaming directories.*

Further more, Cortado Corporate Server offers many possibilities for the output of information. Needed documents can be displayed, printed, or even faxed without first being downloaded with the handheld.

Architecture and security

The software solution consists of a server component – the Cortado Corporate Server – which is installed behind a firewall at the company, and a client component – the Cortado Explorer (on each handheld).

Communication between the smartphone and the Cortado Corporate Server is secured through a 128-bit encrypted SSL connection – the current standard, especially for online banking. In the BlackBerry version, communication between BlackBerry handhelds and the server takes place completely through the secure MDS (Mobile Data Service) channel.

To further increase security and, above all, to ensure document handling that is both fast and easy, Cortado Corporate Server saves the original file on the server side and instead sends a "Remote Document", a file format optimized for display on a mobile device. The data volume of the Remote Document is only about  5 % of the original file. The file can therefore not only be accessed very quickly; it can also be displayed on the smartphone screen.

To enable printing in original format, faxing, or, if needed, downloading of the original file, the Remote Document includes a link to the original file. If, for example, the file is to be printed, the user selects the “Print” option in the menu of the Cortado application. This causes the server to create a print job from the relevant file. The print job is then sent to the handheld  as a compressed data stream and printed via Bluetooth or infrared to, for instance, a mobile printer.
