XETICS offers application-dependent Smart Factory systems for the monitoring, control and planning of production processes for small manufacturing units (SMEs, laboratories, research) as well as for large productions (lines, factories).
Like everywhere else in the working world, the Stuttgart software manufacturer raised the idea of mobile working with tablets. In the case of XETICS, however, the urgency of this question became apparent in a rather unusual way.
“When resetting a tablet, we noticed that it was registered to an employee’s private e-mail address that was no longer valid and we therefore had no access,” recalls Sven Lieckfeldt, employee of the IT department.
This made it clear to the IT specialists at XETICS how urgently they needed a company-compatible solution for managing mobile devices and apps. While searching for a suitable system, Sven Lieckfeldt came across the Cortado solution through Google searches. Then everything happened quite quickly: he tried the trial version. Some open questions were quickly clarified with support. This made the decision between the 3 tested systems easy.
Six iPads, used by IT staff and sales representatives, were the first. In addition to managing the mobile devices, Cortado Server is used for app management. The devices are prepared for the employees with standard apps and preconfigured wherever possible so that fewer things can go wrong. Office products and VPN configurations are also distributed.
The IT expert uses the Apple Device Enrollment Program (DEP) for deployment of the devices. This means that the iPads can be sent to the users brand-new and launched by them themselves.
And even the rollout of older iPhones is still on the admin’s to-do board. Last but not least, file access with Cortado Server is another item on the wish list. The ability to use Cortado software to access the company’s file system, edit documents, and save them in different versions was one of the arguments for purchasing Cortado Server.
