Theodor Wenzel Werk<\/a>, an evangelical non-profit organization based in Berlin, operates seven healthcare facilities. These include a clinic for psychiatric and psychosomatic illnesses, three day clinics, three residential care facilities in Charlottenburg, Frohnau, and Spandau, two facilities for assisted living, and an outpatient care service in Zehlendorf. Approximately 800 employees work at Theodor Wenzel Werk, with the mission of providing medicine, therapy, and care with compassion and responsibility. The organization\u2019s IT infrastructure is managed by a team of four, responsible for around 400 computers and an increasing number of mobile devices.<\/p>\nMobile Ward Rounds with iPads<\/h3>\n
Several years ago, employees in residential care facilities began using iPads for mobile ward rounds, enabling the mobile documentation of care. However, every time the software needed an update, the devices had to be physically collected and updated manually\u2014a process that proved to be too cumbersome. It became clear that an MDM system was needed. Based on the recommendation of another hospital, a satisfied Cortado customer, the team reviewed and approved the Cortado solution.<\/p>\n
Soon after, the service phones used in other departments were also integrated into the Cortado system, with Outlook profiles being pushed to the devices. “We wanted to ensure compliance with data protection regulations,” said Thomas K\u00f6nig, Deputy IT Director at Theodor Wenzel Werk. “If a device is lost, we can wipe it remotely.”<\/p>\n
Route Planning via Mobile Phones<\/h3>\n
Eventually, the outpatient care services were integrated into the system. Using Android phones, employees manage their rounds planning. Currently, 40 devices are in use, provisioned as COPE (Corporate-Owned, Personally Enabled) devices through the Cortado solution. “They were set up once, and everything has been running smoothly since,” according to Thomas K\u00f6nig. Deployed apps include the route planning solution .snap from Euregon, Google Maps, an email program, a photo gallery, and even a flashlight.<\/p>\n
Facility Management and Pump Monitoring via iPhone<\/h3>\n
In a subsequent phase, the construction and facility management team was also equipped. Ten employees received iPhones, all managed in Supervised Mode, meaning they are fully controlled by the IT department. Employees are not able to install apps independently. Workshop phones handle calls and emails, while devices used by heating technicians are equipped with pump software, allowing them to connect to pumps via Bluetooth.<\/p>\n
Thomas K\u00f6nig is far from finished with mobile deployment for his colleagues. He is confident that mobile work will become even more prevalent in the clinic. The year 2023 is set as the target timeframe for extensive mobile deployment. Thomas K\u00f6nig notes, \u201cThat’s when it will get really interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n
