How a German Dental Center Uses Cortado MDM to Manage iPads Securely and Efficiently in Their Practice

The MVZ ZZP Medical Care Center is one of the largest dental centers in the German region of East Westphalia-Lippe. With 13 dentists and around 90 employees, the practice offers a broad range of services, from preventive care and orthodontics to complex implantology. One of its core values is delivering a comprehensive and patient-centered service.

Digitalization: From Medical History to Digital Impressions

At the heart of this service quality lies a strong commitment to digitalization. It starts with patient admission and extends far beyond, encompassing even the visualization of treatment options. iPads have become indispensable tools within the practice. They allow patients to complete medical history forms directly on-screen, facilitate visual medical consultations, and enable legally compliant digital signatures for all documents. The days of handwritten forms and manual data entry are long over.

Today, intraoral scanners also replace traditional, often uncomfortable, dental impressions, a clear win for both patients and the clinical team. The practice relies on DS-Win dental software as well as Athena for digital medical histories and informed consent processes.

Security Is Essential

To ensure professional IT support, practice manager Regina Wall brought in the IT experts from minaxum.it. Founded four years ago, minaxum.it supports businesses across various industries in the region, with a strong focus on IT security.

For Jakob Derzapf, Managing Director of minaxum.it, security was the decisive factor for MVZ ZZP:
“I tested several MDM solutions. Cortado met my expectations in terms of security standards. That was crucial for us, especially when handling sensitive patient data.”
All iPads are configured to allow patients to use only the intended application. Even when devices are provided in the waiting room, there is no access to other apps or data. Jakob Derzapf notes, “This finally allows deployment without any issues.” This setup is known as Kiosk Mode.

User-Friendly and Efficient in Daily Use

Security is only one piece of the puzzle. Usability was equally important. Regina Wall explains: “As soon as a device is picked up, the correct application starts automatically. Patients complete their forms, sign, and the document is instantly saved to their digital file.”
There’s no scanning, no media disruption, just greater transparency, efficiency, and security.

Scheduled Updates for Uninterrupted Operations

Jakob Derzapf has configured updates for iOS and apps to be installed automatically during a defined maintenance window. No team member needs to worry about device status, and updates are applied outside of practice hours, guaranteeing no disruptions to daily workflows.

Streamlined Workflows: Benefiting Patients and Staff

Regina Wall is confident: “Using tablets has not only improved patient service, it also streamlined many internal processes. I save minutes every day, which quickly adds up across hundreds of patients.”

Patients adapt well to the technology too. Since March 2025, ten iPads managed via Cortado MDM have been in operation, and for Regina Wall, it’s already clear that more will follow.
“We’re not just using tablets for medical history intake, but increasingly for consultations and technical documentation. This increases acceptance among staff and drives demand. We’re growing continuously, and our digital infrastructure must grow with us. I envision a dedicated device in every treatment room in the near future.”

Jakob Derzapf adds: “I can confidently recommend Cortado MDM. It simply works, securely and reliably.”
