For devices running iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, Cortado MDM now supports Apple’s declarative device management. Older devices will continue to be managed using the classic Mobile Device Management (MDM) approach.
By adopting this new technology, Cortado MDM takes an important step toward more modern and efficient device management.
What is declarative device management?
While traditional MDM works reactively – the server sends commands and the device executes them – declarative management follows a different principle:
- The desired target state of the device is defined once in the form of declarations.
- The device itself then proactively ensures that this state is maintained.
- Any changes or deviations are automatically reported back to the server.
This reduces server load and delays while speeding up the flow of information. Administrators receive more immediate status updates, and devices can react more flexibly to conditions.
Benefits for organizations
- Increased efficiency: Less dependency on server commands, fewer push notifications.
- Improved transparency: Instant feedback on device status.
- Future readiness: A modern management approach, optimized for large device fleets.
Seamless transition
Organizations do not need to worry about their existing devices: iPhones and iPads running older operating system versions will continue to be reliably managed through classic MDM. With iOS/iPadOS 18, however, they can automatically benefit from the advantages of declarative management – without any additional effort.
