New Wi-Fi Security Policies for Android Devices

The latest Cortado MDM update introduces six additional security policies for devices running Android 13 and later in the administration portal.

These additional Android policies allow you to increase security when handling Wi-Fi configurations on fully managed devices. In particular, this includes the ability to further restrict configured settings or Wi-Fi profiles and protect them against unauthorized changes.

Overview of the New Android Policies

Below is an overview of the six new policies available in the Cortado MDM administration portal:

• Allowed and Blocked Wi-Fi SSIDs: By individually allowing or blocking Wi-Fi networks with specific SSIDs, you can ensure devices only connect to predefined networks, for example.
• Minimum Wi-Fi Security Level: You can exclude Wi-Fi networks that lack necessary security levels - which often include public hotspots. This prevents devices from connecting to potentially insecure networks.
• Allow Sharing of Wi-Fi Networks Added via MDM: This prevents users from sharing a Wi-Fi profile added via MDM (e.g., via QR code), thereby protecting Wi-Fi passwords, such as those for WEP/WPA networks, from being shared.
• Allow Adding Wi-Fi Networks: This restricts network access so that only Wi-Fi networks installed by the MDM via Wi-Fi profiles can be used.
• Allow Enabling/Disabling Wi-Fi: Disabling the Wi-Fi function allows you to ensure, for example, that devices can only connect to the internet via 4G/5G networks.
• Allow Use of Wi-Fi Direct: This can prevent data transfer via Wi-Fi Direct or connections to supported printers to print corporate data.
